The Golden Spurtle
Constantine Costi / GB, AU, 2025 / 75 min.
The Porridge Making World Cup sounds just as dull as the sludgy mush this championship is all about. What makes it special is the friendly, eccentric participants, as is revealed in this humorous Scottish documentary on finding meaning in the tiniest things.

Did you know that you should only stir porridge clockwise? Otherwise the devil will get into it. Everyone knows this – at least, everyone in the sleepy village of Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands, which every year simmers with life during the preparations for het World Porridge Championship. Then the participants arrive – including reigning champion Lisa and seven-time finalist Nick, along with competitors from Canada, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe, as well as Australian newcomer Toby, a taco chef. Spoons at the ready, the members of the jury take their places for the all-important tasting.
Prelude
Before The Golden Spurtle, you'll see Udo Prinsen's 2007 short film Sticky Feet. This five-minute animated film is about Humbert Satterthwaite, a man with a very peculiar disability: sticky feet.
