The Invasion
Sergei Loznitsa / NL, FR, 2024 / 145 min.
In images unaccompanied by commentary, filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa – who grew up in Kyiv – shows the effects of two years of war on his fellow Ukrainians. The result is a searing portrait of the people of Ukraine: devastated by sorrow, violence and loss, but retaining their dignity and resilience.

Ten years on from his documentary on the Maidan Revolution in Kyiv which ousted Ukraine’s corrupt president Viktor Yanukovych, a vassal of Russia’s president Putin, Loznitsa shows events in the wake of those bloody protests.
