Michael Mann / US, 1983 / 96 min.
The rarely screened The Keep would appear to be an outsider in Michael Mann’s oeuvre, but the story of a demon who hunts out Nazi’s has by now been embraced as an intelligent cult film with great visual power. Previously only available on VHS, now on the big screen!
The story is strongly inspired by the traditional Jewish legend of the Golem, a manmade clay creature without a soul that turns against its maker.
Film auteur Michael Mann (1943) directed his first feature film The Jericho Mile thirty years ago. High time to offer a comprehensive retrospective of the eleven films he made for the cinema and his two TV films. Plus of course, episodes of TV series directed, written or produced by Mann, including the influential Miami Vice.
