The Magnificent Seven
John Sturges / US, 1960 / 125 min.
Director John Sturgess based his iconic all-star western on Seven Samurai, the Japanese classic with which Akira Kurosawa had stormed the cinemas six years previously.

Kurosawa was himself a big fan of Sturgess' remake, presenting his American colleague with a samurai sword after having watched the film. The Magnificent Seven, in which the inhabitants of a Mexican village plagued by bandits turn to a gang of gunfighters for help, is a tribute to the mythic Wild West and features such stars as Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn.
