The Masque of the Red Death
Roger Corman / GB, US, 1964 / 86 min.
The king of B movies directed and produced hundreds of films including this stylish adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe story about a satanic prince and his plague-ridden subjects. An explosion of colour featuring Vincent Price and Jane Asher.

In the early 1960s, Roger Corman set about adapting eight Edgar Allan Poe stories. The meeting between the Master of the Macabre and the King of the B movie was fortuitous. Corman’s budget Poe adaptations were praised as inventive, colourful and true to horror traditions, not in the least due to casting Vincent Price to play the lead.
