The Night Porter
Liliana Cavani / IT, 1973 / 118 min.
Liliana Cavani is one of the few female directors in Italian cinema to have made a name for herself internationally. She was a strong presence in the 1970s and 1980s. The Night Porter (Il portierre di notte), a controversial exploration of the relationship between a former SS officer (Dirk Bogarde) and a concentration camp survivor (Charlotte Rampling), accelerated Cavani’s career.
