THE PARADISE SUITE

The young and beautiful Jenya from Bulgaria, Yaya from Africa, Seka from Bosnia who’s after revenge, the Serbian war criminal Ivica who’s on the run, and the Swedish piano prodigy Lukas: they’re all wandering the streets of Amsterdam, each with their own shocking story to tell. They”ve come from all corners of the world to Amsterdam, where their lives cross. They”ve had a tough life; Jenya, Yaya, Seka, Ivica and Lukas have been exposed to human trafficking, refugee misery, prostitution and child neglect, but still try to make a life for themselves, traumatized as they are.The Serbian war criminal Ivica, who”s just become a father, has to accept that crime will be punished; the Bosnian Seka is filled with revenge, Lukas has been badly neglected by his father. Still, love and friendship prove to be the binding elements in the lives of these displaced people. In the face of hardship, they keep nourishing the hope of a better future.

The Paradise Suite – van Ginkel”s second feature film – world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival; there was praise for the international cast”s impressive performances, with supporting roles for Dutch actors Raymond Thiry and Sigrid ten Napel.
