In September, we focus on the rich history of Hungarian cinema. The Round-Up paints a grim portrait of the consequences of war and revolt. Eye programmer Leo van Hee introduces this classic of Hungarian cinema which has been restored by the Hungarian National Film Archive.

István Szábo, Márta Mészáros, Zoltán Fábri and Míklos Jancsó: four filmmakers who raised eyebrows under the Communist regime in Hungary. Their films screened at international festivals, won major awards (an Oscar for Szábo’s Mephisto) and were praised for their artistic quality and critical attitude towards the regime.
