The Tale of Silyan
Tamara Kotevska / NOR, US, 2025 / 80 min.
Poetic documentary in which a farmer takes care of a stork, interwoven with folk tales from North Macedonia. Following on from Honeyland, Tamara Kotevska once again impresses with her rich storytelling and enchanting, warm images.

North Macedonia, harvest season. Farmer Nikola and his wife Jana live in harmony with their land, nature and one another. Life is good, until their idyll is disrupted by new government measures that mean the couple are no longer able to sell their crops. Nikola is forced to get a job at a garbage dump. Here he meets Silyan, a white stork who’s been abandoned by his family because he has a broken wing.
PreludeBefore The Tale of Silyan, you'll see the 2023 short film Koet by Marlies van der Wel. In this colourful two-minute animated film, the harmonious life of a coot and a ferryman comes to a temporary end when a new bridge is built over the river.
