The Tempest
Derek Jarman / GB, 1979 / 96 min.
Derek Jarman and Shakespeare: a combination guaranteed to give startling results. The Tempest is regarded as a Baroque, campy adaptation of the story of Prospero, the power-hungry magician. The film is also an homage to Michael Powell, who spent fifteen years working in vain on his own adaptation of Shakespeare’s play.

Derek Jarman’s third feature film (16mm) is a fantastical, Baroque, campy adaptation of the story of Prospero – an exiled, vengeful magician from Milanese high society who lives in a castle on a deserted island.
