The Tenant
Roman Polanski / FR, 1976 / 125 min.
Unforgettable: Polanski as the timid tenant of a Paris apartment, where the previous tenant committed suicide. A study of paranoia and emotional isolation. What if you involuntarily take on someone else’s identity? One of the Coens’ favourites.

He seems to be the perfect tenant: Trelkovsky, a Polish immigrant, will do anything to not be a nuisance in his new two-room apartment. The concierge (Shelley Winters) has warned him: the other residents really appreciate peace and quiet. And oh yeah, one other thing: the previous tenant, an archaeologist, threw himself out of the window.
