Halfway through the seventies, Elisabeth flees her abusive husband and enters a commune in a suburb of Stockholm, complete with posters of Che Guevara and Mao on the walls. Pippi Longstocking is seen as materialistic and capitalist, and “doing the washing up is bourgeois”, Anna tells her as she stands in the kitchen stark naked, interrupting the household chores. Watching TV is forbidden, and gifts are rejected.
