Krzysztof Kieślowski’s TV film debut, Staff (1975), follows an idealistic 19-year old tailor who has to make a suit for an arrogant actor. This will be preceded by his short film Underpass (1974), in which a teacher tries to re-win his wife’s affections.

A teacher in a small town in Poland has been alienated from his wife a window dresser in Warsaw. He looks her up in the hope she will return to him instead of requesting a divorce.
Staff (Krzysztof Kieślowski, PL 1975, 67')
Kieślowski’s TV film debut is the story of a young tailor who starts work at the theatre and comes into conflict with his personal opinions on art and reality. Romek, an idealistic 19-year-old, is pressured into making a suit for an arrogant actor by his new colleague. Staff was largely based on Kieślowski’s own experiences. He graduated from the National Theatre Technique School in Warsaw and later worked for the Warsaw Contemporary Theatre as a dresser for famous actors.
