Veille d'armes
Jacques de Baroncelli / FR, 1925 / 110 min.
Director Jacques de Baroncelli proves that melodrama can be so much more than a mere collage of pining glances, powerless gestures and over-the-top display of heartache, culminating in death or some other inconvenience. The war drama Veille d’armes is a serrated story of a forbidden love in military circles, cut with newsreel footage from the 1920s. Martin de Ruiter (piano) provides live accompaniment with the Italian percussionist Vincenzo Castellana.
