Videotheek Marco
Gyz La Rivière / NL, 2025 / 96 min.
Gyz La Rivière’s marvellous ode to the last video shop proprietors in the Benelux; an eccentric documentary on the rich history of (family-run) video stores, taking Rotterdam’s vanished Videotheek Marco as its starting point.

It’s now something we feel nostalgic about: endlessly scanning the shelves of the local video store to find exactly the right VHS film for the occasion, under the appraising eye of the video store clerk – who not infrequently turns out to be a huge film connoisseur. Videotheek Marco (slogan: 'You can see why!') was a small shop, now long gone, in the Beurs/Churchillplein metro station in Rotterdam. Gyz La Rivière takes this ‘legal underground video store’ as the starting point for his highly entertaining trip down memory lane.
