With Hasan in Gaza
Kamal Aljafari / PS, FR, QA, DEUZE, 2025 / 106 min.
Moving travelogue compiled from three MiniDV tapes shot by artist and filmmaker Kamal Aljafari in 2001 during a visit to the Gaza Strip in search of a former cell mate. A time capsule from early 21st-century Gaza.

In 1989, during the first Palestinian Intifada, artist and filmmaker Kamal Aljafari ended up in an Israeli prison accused of membership of a hostile organisation. In his cell he met Abdel Rahim. 12 years later, Aljafari travelled to Gaza with only a name, a photograph, a local guide (Hasan) and a video camera in the hope of finding Abdel.
The resulting three MiniDV tapes gathered dust for almost two decades and create a wonderful, heart-rending ode to the people of Gaza. Aljafari recently rediscovered the tapes in his archive and edited them into this journal-like report.
