Workshop Film & Feminist Film Theories
What has changed in the field of film and film studies since the 1970s, when Laura Mulvey published her seminal essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema in Screen?
EYE Film Institute Netherlands and the University of Groningen will host a Symposium on Film & Feminist Film Theories, including a workshop and a special program accompanying the book launch of the publication Feminisms (Amsterdam University Press).
The workshop (from 3-5pm) is devoted to peer reviewing in the field of film and media research, with special attention to gender, race, and etnicity-related issues. Contributors are Laura Mulvey (Birkbeck College, London, UK), Anna Backman Rogers (Gothenburg University, Sweden), Veronica Pravadelli (Roma Tre, Rome, Italy), Ian Christie (Birkbeck College, London), Dominique Chateau (Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne), Annie van den Oever (University of Groningen), Giovanna Fossati (Chief Curator EYE / University of Amsterdam), and other international guests.
The workshop will be moderated by Annie van den Oever; the workshop is co-hosted by the Research School for Media Studies (RMes).
Participants are selected to present their reviews on the spot. Audience is welcome. Guest speakers will share their insights on peer reviewing practices with all persons present. Good and bad practices will be discussed as part of the workshop.
