Young mouse Yuku lives with her mouse family in a huge castle. She is supposed to keep watch over their food, but she prefers listening to her grandma: a virtuoso storyteller with a marvellous ukulele. Yuku’s grandma tells her many grandchildren stories from her big storybook. Following an attack by a cat she becomes exhausted and tells her grandchildren that she’ll soon be collected by the blind mole, who will lead her to the dark tunnels of the earth.
