Closing night of Eye's Black Light programme, curated by Da Bounce. Short films and a conversation with a new generation of Dutch filmmakers that tell stories from a Black perspective.

On closing night young Dutch talent considers issues such as: who are you, what do you stand for, what is your track record, what is your cinematic signature? What are your experiences as black filmmakers and in how far can you hold on to your identity?

This pricey film adaptation of Émile Zola's novel about a frivolous young woman and the men she destroys both materially and morally, was originally accompanied by classical music, with fragments by Jacques Offenbach and others. 

Composer Baudime Jam, who specialises in silent film scores, wrote a new score for Nana, which he will perform with his string quartet Prima Vista and pianist Carmen Martínez-Pierret.Tickets are on sale from <a href="https://www.muziekgebouw.nl/agenda/8902/Quatuor_Prima_Vista_Carmen_Martinez_Pierret/Nana_1926_/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Muziekgebouw</a>, where this screening takes place.

﻿Art & Film

The filmmakers — Lucrecia Martel (South America), Nanouk Leopold (Europe), Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese (Africa), Carlos Reygadas (North America) and Jia Zhang-ke (Asia) — were each invited to make a work for the exhibition that exploits the three-dimensional gallery space rather than the two-dimensional cinema screen. For some of them, it was the first time they had created a cinematographic installation that explores the boundaries of their work and of the art of film in general.

Eye Classics means a reunion with great directors from all over the world. Think of Hitchcock, Truffaut, Fellini. But don't forget Fons Rademakers, Wim Verstappen and Adriaan Ditvoorst. And then there's Hou Hsiao-hsien, Kurosawa, Ozu, Ang Lee and Tarkovski...

Eye now brings film history even closer with Eye Classics. On the big screen, screened in 35mm whenever possible.
