Aatos en de wereld
Reetta Huhtanen / BE, 2019 / 24 min.
Three young children in Brussels show us the great sides of living together, with other people and all their different cultures and habits, in a world without pigeonholes. 6+

Molenbeek, Brussels, forms the setting for this short documentary for young children. For six-year-old friends Aatos, Amine and Flo, it is their home. Here, they play together, fantasizing about who gets to take the front seat on their flying carpet. They live in the same building, but lead very different lives. Until terrorist attacks in Brussels disturb their harmonious world. Suddenly armed soldiers patrol their street and people light candles on the sidewalk.
For Finnish film maker Reetta, the rich range of cultural differences between Aatos, Amine and Flo, perfectly represent the diversity with which Brussels - and perhaps the whole of Europe - is confronted with in this day and age. The three children show us that it is indeed possible for so many different cultures to live together, without pigeonholing.
