Christos Nikou / GR, PL, SI, 2020 / 91 min.

The hospitals in town are filled with people suffering from a mysterious illness that causes them to lose their memory. A highly original film, evocative of the Greek Weird Wave and Swedish director Roy Andersson’s deadpan comic scenes.

Poster apples

Some of the survivors of the mysterious disease are not collected by relatives. For those left behind, the authorities have developed an experimental recovery programme that helps them build a new identity.

Apples (original title: Mila) world premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, where it opened the Orrizonti competition and went on to win numerous awards at other festivals (including Sevilla and Ljubjana).

Pre-film Before the screening of Apples, you can watch the short film Tired of Swimming (6') by Anna Eijsbouts. In this somewhat surreal film, a man is torn by the memory of his wife. His solitary existence is only set in motion by a moribund fish in a bowl.
