Nanouk Leopold / NL, DE, 2013 / 93 min.
Gerbrand Bakker’s novel The Twin was adapted for film by Dutch director Nanouk Leopold herself. Helmer is a farmer’s son whose quiet and lonely life opens op unexpectedly when a young farmhand starts work on the farm.

Gerbrand Bakker’s first book, translated as The Twin, is a sober and restrained novel which won numerous national and international awards. The bestseller tells the story of Helmert van Wonderen, a shy and reserved man in his fifties who works on the family farm and cares for his ancient father, a man he hates. Helmert struggles with the accidental death of his twin brother, having once been forced to drop out of university and his repressed homosexuality.
