Author Dirk van Weelden, an avid runner, will discuss how Guido van der Werve’s work exhausts the body, endangers it and goes beyond its boundaries and what the effects thereof are. Lecture featuring film excerpts.

‘Facing danger, cold, endless repetition and physical exhaustion is a restless deed of gradually changing the subject,’ writes Dirk van Weelden in the publication accompanying Guido van der Werve’s exhibition. During his lecture, larded with film excerpts, Van Weelden will discuss how Guido van der Werve performs the extreme, exhausting, dangerous activities in his films in a calm, seemingly emotionless manner is related to shamanistic rituals and asceticism.
