A decade after his debut Stilleben, award-winning Austrian director Sebastian Meise reveals the tragic fate of homosexuals in post-war Germany. Immediately after World War II, young Hans is often imprisoned for his illegal sex with a man. His prosecution is based on Paragraph 175 of the German penal code drawn up in 1871. ‘Basic homosexuality’ was only decriminalised in 1969.

Free screening, offered by the Europees Parlement Liaisonbureau. Great Freedom is nominated for the Lux Audience Award presented every year by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas.
