Chaplin’s comic indictment of the alienation caused by capitalist society brought him accusations of being a communist. Something he strenuously denied. He intended nothing more than to amuse with this witty satire.

As all the greats from the history of film need revisiting from time to time, distributor Piece of Magic is re-releasing no less than ten (restored) films by the genius Charles Chaplin in international cinemas.

‘The Tramp’ has loads of slapstick fun with ‘The Kid’, played by child star Jackie Coogan. The pair of them get into incredible scrapes, but always manage to get out again.

Charlie is used to roaming freely on his own as a tramp, but when he finds an abandoned baby he starts to get used to the company. Charlie and 'The Kid' turn out to be the perfect team and have lots of adventures. But then the mother tracks the pair down and demands her child… what to do now?

The Kid

Fortune-hunters are feverishly searching for gold in Alaska. Little tramp Charlie is among them. After several days without food – he even ends up eating his own shoes – he strikes it rich with a huge gold find.

The Gold Rush

Chaplin comedy that mixes slapstick, satire and social criticism. Chaplin plays a poor Jewish barber who is mistaken for dictator Adenoid Hynkel, a populist rabble-rouser based on Hitler. A satire on Nazi Germany, released after the outbreak of World War II.
