Aïda (Jasna Đuričić) works in Srebrenica at the Dutch UN base as an interpreter for the United Nations. She, her family and 20,000 other Bosnian Muslims seek refuge from the advancing Bosnian-Serb army. UN protections crumble as the situation escalates with the arrival of Ratko Mladić, who would later be convicted of war crimes for his actions during the Yugoslav wars.
