The French Dispatch
Wes Anderson / DE, US, 2020 / 103 min.
Wes Anderson’s latest film is a tongue-in-cheek homage to famous weekly magazine The New Yorker. Anderson tells the story of the outgoing editorial team of an American weekly journal in a fictitious French city; the three best stories in the magazine come to life. Featuring an all-star cast including Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Benicio del Toro and Elisabeth Moss.
It looks like the director of The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Isle of Dogs has every edition of The New Yorker in a collector’s binding on his bookshelf. Little wonder perhaps then that his latest production is a homage to what is often considered the best literary magazine in the Western hemisphere.
Before the feature, we screen the music video Aline, directed by Wes Anderson on the occasion of The French Dispatch (length: 3'40)
