New York neighbourhood gangs The Jets and The Sharks are at war. When an ex-member of The Jets falls in love with the sister (Natalie Wood) of The Sharks’ leader things come to a head. One of the major Hollywood musicals, particularly thanks to Stephen Sondheim’s songs and Leonard Bernstein’s music.

West Side Story won ten Oscars including best film, best supporting cast and best camerawork. Jerome Robbins’ won a special Oscar for best choreography.
