Het universum van Jaap Pieters

An evening with Jaap Pieters, Han Bennink and Barbara den Uyl. Screening this winter at IFFR, now to be admired at EYE on Art: Barbara den Uyl’s portrait of the ‘Super-8 filmmakers’ own master of the art of living’, Jaap Pieters. Den Uyl follows the filmmaker as he goes about his daily business of trying to capture the ‘beauty of existence’ on camera.

Pieters’ films express a fascination for what the Super-8 filmmaker himself calls the ‘jagged edges of life’.  Den Uyl produced a captivating portrait of this Super-8 filmmaker with a great talent for life, who in his own words ‘lives in another world than where the world is’.

Before  the documentary, Jaap Pieters screens  8mm films. This is followed by a live performance by jazz phenomenon Han Bennink, the percussionist who connects flawlessly timed swing with explosive improvisations in a visually striking performance.
