Lois Weber was the most successful female filmmaker in her time and a major influence on silent cinema. The screening of the recent restoration of Shoes, Weber’s melodrama about a poor shop assistant, will be introduced by Jane Gaines, Professor of Film Studies at the Columbia University School of the Arts in New York.
