Programme

Jen Liu: Electropore (2021-2022, 11’11’’)
Genetic manipulation using electroshocks, administered to living flesh cells – which can absorb new DNA through temporary openings. The DNA edited by Lui contains coded messages about methods of political protest and examples for possible new communication networks for activists in oppressive regimes.
Jen Liu (1976) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at the MoMA, New York and the Kunsthalle Wien, among others.
Elisa Strinna: The Antarctic Gardener (2022, 24’)
Gardening in Antarctica in a completely enclosed artificial ecosphere: it's the job of the androgynous scientist in Elis Strinna's latest video, anticipating plans for the colonization of space. Strinna's documentary, a mix of fact and fiction, shows the extreme loneliness of the researcher. What does our future look like when we take the next step?
Elisa Strinna (1982) is a multimedia artist who is fascinated by the relationship between planet Earth's ecosystem and contemporary infrastructure. Her work has been shown in Documenta 15 and the Venice Biennale (2015).
Zauri Matikashvili: Mavis and Kosmas (2021, 16’29”)
They are rarely noticed: the cleaners who mop the workspaces of the art academies five days a week. Zaura Matikashvili points the camera at cleaners Mavis Adu-Gyamfi and Kosmas Gavranidis and gives them the floor. What do they clean up and when is waste still art?
Zaura Matikashvili was born in Georgia and studied in Münster and Düsseldorf; since 2022 he has had a residency at the Rijkakademie.
Zijlmans / Jongenelis: The Mother of All Failure (2022, 6’45”)
The Mother of All Failures: two figures walk through a landscape – the taller expresses an inner monologue about his victimhood and the role the smaller would play in it. A litany of complaining, denigrating, belittling, reproachful and humiliating words. Psycho-horror in gripping and humorous scenes…
Sylvie Zijlmans (1964) and Hewald Jongenelis (1962) have been working together for a long time. Well-known projects include 'The Magnetic North' (2015, performances with residents of Amsterdam-Noord) and 'They Live in Us' (2020), intensive collaboration with staff and patients of the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.
