Babi Yar. Context
Sergei Loznitsa / NL, UA, 2021 / 121 min.
Swept under the carpet for eighty years: the mass execution of more than 33.000 Jews in the Babi Yar ravine, close to German-occupied Kyiv. Sergei Loznitsa, who grew up in Kyiv, tells the story of a horrific crime purely in images and sound.

It took two days: by the end, 33.771 Jewish citizens of Kyiv had been murdered by Sonderkommando 4a of the German army, assisted by Ukrainian auxiliaries and two units from the Southern Police Regiment. No one in Kyiv protested or came to the aid of the Jews.
