Self-proclaimed rap queen Maysa (15) is not afraid to speak her mind. She has a sharp tongue during a late-night hangout with friends. But when the atmosphere changes, it turns out that expressive rap queens can also freeze up.

Kimiko (9) takes the train from her village to the city to live with her mother for the first time. Kimiko is uneased by a train advertisement about masks, a confusion that grows when she learns that her mother also hides her face behind a mask.

Lily (19), an obstetrician in training, is still affected by the complicated relationship she has with her father. While assisting a delivery, her attention is directed more towards the father-to-be than towards the baby. Back in her childhood home, she's confronted with a dilemma: Is she going to let her guard down by confronting her father, knowing she might again be let down; or is she going to stay silent.

In 2008 Faydim emigrated from Iran to the Netherlands. Now 13 years later, she struggles with homesickness and longing for her homeland. Meanwhile, her younger brother Parham reaches out for her help to emigrate to the Netherlands. This leads Faydim to reconsider her own choices.
