Programme

12:00-13:00: Exclusive screening HBO Max Originals: Industry Season 3
Strap in for the premiere episode of the third season of HBO Max Originals' Industry! First airing in 2020, the drama series follows young graduates competing for positions at a prestigious London investment bank. Exploring themes of ambition, power, and survival, Industry is celebrated for its seismic soundtrack and iconic theme tune composed by electronic producer/DJ Nathan Micay. In this Dekmantel exclusive, watch the show on the Eye Filmmuseum’s state-of-the-art projection facilities and surround sound system.

13:00-14:00 Interview: Scoring for HBO: with composer Nathan Micay and music supervisor Oliver White
Toronto-born, Berlin-based artist Nathan Micay dives into his full symphonic hybrid score for the hit HBO series Industry. With celebrated releases on labels including AD93 and Warp, as well as DJ appearances at Berghain, Fabric, and NYC’s Good Room, Micay is a major figure in clubland. Alongside music supervisor Oliver White, he'll discuss transitioning from dancefloors to soundtracks, exploring the art of composing for TV. The interview is moderated by Cathelijne Blok.

14:30-15:30 Panel: Putting the Visual on the Audio: with Ezra Miller, Ben Kreukniet and Chris Kore
Enter the place where sound and vision converge: the luminous world of audiovisual (AV) performances. Emerging technologies and pioneering figures are elevating the synthesis of electronic music and cinematic spectacle. Dekmantel, at the forefront of this AV revolution, carves a niche in the festival circuit, offering immersive experiences and rapturous dancefloor encounters. Shining a light on the visual side of things, join Ben Kreukniet, co-director of tours for Massive Attack and James Blake; Ezra Miller, collaborator with Objekt, Caroline Polachek, and Nick León (as part of Dekmantel Ten's programme); and digital artist Chris Kore, whose works have featured at Boiler Room and Draaimolen, for an illuminating conversation about their craft. This panel is moderated by El Bickers.

16:00-17:00 Interview: A conversation with Johnny Jewel
Deliciously dreamy nostalgia-meets-futurism, all wrapped up in glistening neon synths – Johnny Jewel’s music resides in the space between film and fantasy. The artist behind iconic bands like Glass Candy, Chromatics, and Desire, he has composed for the soundtracks of Drive (2011), Home (2016), Twin Peaks (2017), and Holly (2023). In conversation with Thijs Havens, Jewel will reflect on his illustrious career before giving a live score performance at 21:00 in Cinema 1.

17:30-20:30 Film screening: Spiral Tribe in context: 'Free Party: A Folk History' + interview Mark Angelo Harrison
Meet Spiral Tribe – a free party soundsystem and travelling troupe of anti-authoritarian ravers hell-bent on challenging the status quo. In the 1990s, the group – branded ‘techno pagans’ by the British government – fought against the draconian Criminal Justice Bill, which forbade the public playing of music with "repetitive beats". Narrating the collective's legacy – alongside the untold stories of many other pioneering organisers, DJs, and dancers – Free Party: A Folk History (Trinder Films, 2023) is a major new, independent documentary. Following the screening, catch Spiral Tribe co-founder and author of 'A Darker Electricity' (2023) in conversation with El Bickers.

21:00-22:00 Live Score: Johnny Jewel (tickets sold seperately)
A rare opportunity to experience Johnny Jewel's compositions for film and TV – Italo and synth fans, rejoice! Jewel will be performing songs from Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) – David Lynch's highly-awaited revival of the cult, 1990s crime drama – and Lost River (2014), Ryan Gosling's directorial debut.
Thursday 1 August, the day programme is free for all. For Johnny Jewel's performance at 21:00 you need a ticket.
