Cinedans 2024: Dutch Dance Film Archive
The second public program of the Dutch Dance Film Archive Project focuses on the different forms of collaboration between filmmaker and choreographer.

Dance film is an interdisciplinary art form and the collaboration can be structured in different ways - or not; some choreographers work without a director, some directors without a choreographer. What are the agreements, who is in charge or ultimately responsible? What makes one dance film a success, and why do some fail to achieve a satisfactory result? Based on successful examples, we dive into a deeper analysis. Why, and how, did the makers succeed in creating these wonderful films?Based on the discussion we hope to be able to draw some conclusions and recommendations for a new generation of dance filmmakers. Makers who are central in this program are:Noud Heerkens, filmmaker with an extensive body of work in dance film;Janica Draisma, multidisciplinary artist; The duo of Peter Leung, choreographer and dancer and filmmaker Bowie Verschuuren; Andrea Boll, choreographer and dancer, who created several dance films with different filmmakers. Films from all the makers will be screened:Man in Motion (1995, 9’) by Noud Heerkens, dance Ton LutgerinkBala II (1993, 10”) & Skippin’ Sore (1990, 3’) by Janica DraismaCirce (2018, 9’) by Peter Leung & Bowie Verschuurendownriver (2020, 10’) by Andrea Boll & Peter Kadar
