E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial
Steven Spielberg / US, 1982 / 115 min.
The tale about a group of children caring for an extra-terrestrial creature stranded on earth is at the same time a fine metaphor for the unbiased approach to what is strange and unfamiliar. It's a theme which certainly has not lost any of its urgency.

Trade publication Variety’s criticism of Close Encounters of the Third Kind was that although it was beautifully made, it lacked the warmth and humanity of George Lucas' Star Wars. Spielberg’s second science fiction film E.T. can be explained as an implicit response to the above. There is no more heart-warming film than this fairy tale about the cuddliest alien in cinema history.
