El ángel exterminador
In 1946 the surrealist master, Luis Buñuel, settled in Mexico to shoot The Exterminating Angel (1962), a satirical portrait of a complacent bourgeoisie only thinly coated by a veneer of civilization.

“The best explanation for this film is that, from the standpoint of pure reason, there is no explanation”, is how Buñuel opened The Exterminating Angel. In this film, upper-class guests arrive in a villa to enjoy a sumptuous banquet only to find that a mysterious force prevents them from leaving the house. The thin veneer of civilization soon gives way to rampant cannibalism, morphine abuse and black magic.
