El jockey
Luis Ortega / ES, AR, US, MX, DK, 2024 / 97 min.
Black psychological comedy with a dash of thriller about a legendary, self-destructive Argentinian jockey who flees, undergoing a wondrous transformation. Idiosyncratic, stylish film was the Argentinian Oscar entry.

Remo Manfrediniis a legendary jockey whose self-destructive behaviour overshadows his talents. He races mainly to pay off his debts to a criminal gang, headed by the seedy boss Sirena. On the day of the most important race of his life, things go thoroughly wrong. Remo gets into an accident, killing one of the most precious horses. He flees and wanders around the dark streets of Buenos Aires. While assuming a new identity, he must stay out of the hands of Sirena and his henchmen, who want to track him down at all costs, dead or alive.
Argentine director Luis Ortega turned El jockey (Kill the Jockey) into a psychological black comedy with touches of a thriller. The film is Argentina’s entry for the Oscars.
