Eliso
Nikoloz Shengelaya / SUHH, 1928 / 76 min.
Eliso is a must-see film for anyone concerned with the broader canvas of world history. The tale of the resistance against the Russian occupiers of a Circassian village in Georgia in 1864 is not only the story of Russian expansionism, but also of age-old Muslim-Christian friction. With live music by an international ensemble featuring sax, saz, bass, percussion and bandoneon.
