Emily

Frances O'Connor / GB, US, 2022 / 130 min.

Who was that woman who, in a 19th-century patriarchal society, wrote the classic Wuthering Heights? Actor Frances O’Connor became intrigued by the youngest of the three Brontë sisters and wrote a script which she then directed herself, with Emma MacKay in the title role.

Emily Brontë was just three years of age when her mother died. She and her two older sisters (Anne and Charlotte) and brother Branwell were then cared for by her father Patrick Bronte, an Anglican clergyman, and his second curate, the charming William Weightman.

In addition to English, French is occasionally spoken in this film. When the English subtitled version is shown, only the French texts are subtitled in English, the English dialogues are not subtitled in this copy.
