It’s a well-known fact that polarisation the between the illiberal right and the free-thinking left is rife in Hungary today. Gábor Reisz’s fourth fiction feature brings this home to the viewer through the story of high-school student Abel, his parents, his history teacher and a journalist.
Like most young teens, Abel – son of married couple Judit and Gyorgi – is more interested in first love than his schoolbooks. When he has to take a final oral exam with history teacher Jakab, it all goes wrong: he fails the exam. Much to his parents’ dismay, as they really want Abel to go to university.
