The Eye Art & Film Prize goes to Chia-Wei Hsu for the highly original way in which he mixes archaeology and technology Hsu combines film with visual art in extensive video installations, and interweaves big themes such as cultural history and the geopolitics of Southeast Asia with small, personal stories; this alows him to bring forgotten histories back to life.

To mark this celebratory tenth edition of the prize, Chia-Wei Hsu will enter into a discussion with the first winner of the Eye Art & Film Prize, German artist Hito Steyerl, who won in 2015. Each will be asked what they see as the major developments in film during the past ten years, and above all: what are they looking forward to in the next ten years. They will then address those challenges with one another in a conversation moderated by Julian Ross, Head of Programming at Eye.

The Eye Art & Film Prize is intended for artists working at the intersection between art and film, and is presented to makers who are building an exceptional oeuvre, and who demonstrate an idiosyncratic vision of film art and/or visual culture. The Eye Art & Film Prize is supported by Ammodo.
