The film tells a universal story about oppression and resistance, but also about unleashing a force that escapes the control of its maker. Fanciful, expressionistic sets depict the medieval Jewish ghetto of Prague. Intelligent animation techniques make the magic of rabbi Löw a sight to behold. Director Paul Wegener can be seen as the golem himself.
