Filmmagie: Als een vis in het water
Discover the magic of film with six animated short films from Eye’s rich collection. A film programme all about playing, swimming, and moving in the water. And with films in which water leads to beautiful works of art.

Programme

Some Logic (Rop van Mierlo, 2014, 1')
Animation based on the paintings in the book Some Logic by artist Rop van Mierlo, with music by Young Marco. "The final animation shows the animals in the order they appear in the book, presenting all the attempts at painting in sequence; from the cover image to the last animal in the book."

Zeezucht (Marlies van der Wel, 2015, 11')
Jonas dreams of a life in the sea. But this is impossible. Or is it? From the first moment Jonas sees the sea, as a child, he knows that this is his home. He wants to become one with the sea, forever. He spends his life combing the beach in search of objects with which he builds bizarre installations aimed at making his dream of a new life among fishes come true.

De wastafel (Ton van Saane, 1968, 2')
Animated film accompanied by flute music and making use of a combination of drawings on paper cut-outs that move as part of a cut-out animation. If you can’t reach the tap, you have to think of something else. But look out, or the water will get everywhere!

Dodu, the Cardboard Boy (José Miguel Ribeiro, 2010, 5')
Dodu, the boy made from cardboard, has exciting adventures with his friend the ladybird. The sea, the moon, the boat they sail in – everything is made of cardboard.

Kuap (Nils Hedinger, 2018, 8')
A tadpole misses the chance to become a frog and is left behind, alone. But there are lots of things to discover in the pond, and spring will come again next year. A small story about growing up.

Refreshment (Johan Rijpma, 2014, 3')
As time passes, a puddle gradually dries out. The surface area of the water shrinks and changes shape. Just before the water evaporates completely, the process is stopped. An intervention that artificially prolongs the life of the puddle, allowing new forms to become visible that otherwise could never have arisen.

Make your own flipbook (30')
After watching the films, you can make a flipbook in the cinema. A flipbook is little book with a small drawing which changes slightly on each page. When you ‘flip’ or scroll through the pages of the book with your thumb, you see these drawings one after another, very fast. All the individual drawings then give the impression of a film. So by making this flipbook, you’re really making your own mini cartoon film!
Not suitable for children’s parties. All children must be accompanied.
