Fjord
Cristian Mungiu / RO, FR, NO, DK, FI, 2026 / 146 min.
What happens when an evangelical Christian family’s extremely strict upbringing methods clash with the norms of a progressive culture that is open to the world? Cristian Mungiu was awarded his second Palme d’Or in Cannes for Fjord, which tells the story of a conservative Romanian family in Norway.
Mungiu follows the strict Christian Gheorgiu family, who have relocated to a remote Norwegian fjord with the aim of becoming part of the local community. Romanian Mihai (Sebastian Stan) and Norwegian Lisbet (Renate Reinsve) have five children, and are bringing them up according to the strict rules of evangelical Christianity. These include daily Bible study and a ban on smartphones.
