Gluckauf
Remy van Heugten / NL, 2015 / 102 min.
The director of this father-and-son drama set in the Netherlands’ southernmost province of Limburg drew on his own adolescent years in this former mining area. A boy finds out his father is in debt to a charismatic criminal.
Lei, a drifter in his fifties at the bottom of the social ladder, does all he can to survive. His biggest fear is to lose the respect of his son Jeffrey, an ambitious twenty-something. When Jeffrey finds out that his father owes money to a charismatic underworld character, he does what any loving son would do: considers his father’s debt to be his own.
