Agnes is a woman who loves to be in nature; William is a young Latin teacher who feels more at home behind a desk, with nothing more than a candle to help him through the arduous process of writing. The love that blossoms between them – sumptuously filmed by Łukasz Żal (The Zone of Interest) – leads to a happy marriage; until their eleven-year-old son Hamnet dies of the plague.
