Everyone knows one: grouches for whom life is a torment. Pansy, the lead role in Mike Leigh’s latest film, is one of these. Leigh reveals with empathy and a good dose of humour that there’s a story behind this woman who seeks confrontation wherever she goes.
Pansy lives with her husband, plumber Curtley, and her adult son Moses in a more than respectable house in one of the outer suburbs of London. Neither Curtley nor Moses can do a single thing right in Pansy’s eyes, and the rest of the world also feels Pansy’s wrath on a daily basis.
