Around 1991, just as the Balkans start to disintegrate, 6-year-old Maja and her parents emigrate from Yugoslavia to Denmark, hoping for a better life and a new career for father Marko. Maja's two older brothers stay behind, with a promise that they can follow as soon as the family is established.
