Il delitto di Giovanni Episcopo
Alberto Lattuada / IT, 1947 / 85 min.
This seldom-screened film from Albert Lattuada’s neo-realist period is an adaptation of Gabriele d’Annunzio’s novella of the same title. A simple clerk falls under the spell of a dissipated adventurer and commits a murder. The first of four Lattuada films on which Federico Fellini was co-screenwriter.

Giovanni Episcopo leads a modest existence working in an office and living in an equally modest bedsit. One day, his colleagues take him to a café and introduce him to adventurer and con-man Giulio Wanzer.
